The ascent of Kilimanjaro is a extraordinary adventure for all mountain lovers. The roof of africa is accessible to almost everyone, you still have to prepare to reach 5 895 m altitude.
Several routes will allow you to reach the roof of Africa, for my part I climbed the Kilimanjaro via the Machame route who is very beautiful.
When embarking on this adventure, it is important to choose the agency that suits you best. Indeed, you will find many agencies allowing you to make this climb. However, be careful and choose your agency well.
How to choose your agency for the ascent of Kilimanjaro?
When you start to find out about the different agencies that offer the possibility of climbing Kilimanjaro, you risk drowning yourself under the information because the choice is so great.
Here are some tips for choosing the agency that suits you best:
- First contact / feeling with the agency remains an important point to take into account when choosing your agency.
- Seriousness and security of the agency : don't choose an agency based simply on price. Many criteria are important. Indeed, the ascent of Kilimanjaro is done over several days with a significant daily gain in altitude. So be careful and don't choose a low price to the detriment of your safety.
- Details of the program and what is included and what is not: pay close attention to how the program unfolds and what is included and what is not. You have the option to add some options to have a more comfortable and luxurious experience.
- The guide's experience : this point is important, but also prefer a French guide if you do not speak English in order to be more comfortable to discuss in case of problems etc.
- The price : obviously the price is an important factor. The price varies depending on the route you choose to take, the number of days to climb but also in relation to the additional options you choose to maximize your comfort.
Do not forget that at the price on which you will agree with the agency, you will have to add the tips of the guides, cooks and porters who will accompany you throughout this adventure.
Which international agency to choose to climb Kilimanjaro?
At first you have the possibility of choosing to go with a travel organization that will organize your trip from A to Z. Indeed, this intermediary will take care of everything according to what you want.
The price may be higher but you will not get not the language barrier problem for example. Also, this will allow you save time in negotiations with the many local agencies.

Hello,
We are a couple interested in going up the KILIMANJARO but we do not have the budget that would seem to be necessary near an agency to do so ... We have also heard the possibility of going through a guide directly and you inform us of the fact that it will be necessary to do "all the steps" ourselves. What steps are they? Could you give us your opinion or possible options according to our means?
We do not want a porter for our business or luxury comfort.
If you receive this message, we thank you in advance for your answers !!
See you soon
Thibaut and Elisa.
Hello,
When I say "all the steps" I mean by booking the hotel, the taxi between the airport and the hotel, etc. This is not the case when you go through the agencies that are take care of everything for you.
It all depends on your budget. But for example, the cheapest route is the Marangu route. You have to make the ascent in as few days as possible so that it is cheaper and go directly through a guide so that it is the cheapest.
If you do not take a porter, you will have to carry everything: food, tent, sleeping bag etc yourself ... and obviously this will save you a lot of money.
I can send you the number of the guide I know locally (on the other hand he does not speak French, only English), he may be able to help you determine a budget.
Good day and thank you for your message 🙂
Bonjour.
With friends we are interested in doing Kilimanjaro at the beginning of February.
Can you give me the coordinates of your guide?
What had been the cost of this great adventure?
Looking forward to reading you.
William Demetria.
Hello, thank you for your comments, I am sending you the WhatsApp number of my guide by email 😉
Hello Margaux,
Thank you for this very detailed feedback on your trip to Tanzania. I plan to go there for 3 weeks / a month from mid-February.
I would probably be joined by two friends with whom we plan to climb Kilimanjaro. It turns out that we are “seasoned” mountaineers, at least we think we can do without the agency as well as the carriers in view of our experience in the mountains. As I see everywhere, a guide is compulsory, so your contact is of great interest to us for our ascent. If you have more details on this format of ascent in terms of costs, I am interested.
Looking forward to discussing with you.
Thank you !
Alexander C.
Hello Alexandre,
Thank you for your comment already 🙂
Yes indeed the guide is compulsory, but normally you can do it without a carrier if you are able 🙂 So unfortunately I don't know much about the subject, but I can give you the contact of my guide who will probably be able to do more. light it up! I'll send you this by email 😉

Hello Margaux,
Thank you for this great article!
I will be interested in the coordinates of your guide, to organize a trek directly with him.
And in terms of accommodation during the trek, is it possible to rent tents every evening or does it necessarily have to be transported? Do you have an idea of the price?
Thank you so much!
Julie
Hello Julie,
Thank you for this comment and of course I will put you in contact with my guide via your email address 😉
For the trek, I advise you to read all my articles on the Kili, normally I explain a lot of things and in particular, it is the porters who carry the tents (afterwards you can choose not to have any and to carry everything alone).
Another possibility is to go through the Marangu route and in this case, no one is carrying a tent because the accommodations are sort of lodges already set up in the different camps.
Hello !
First of all thank you for sharing this experience, it answers many of our questions. We would like to climb Kili in September and we would like to avoid agency fees.
Would it be possible to have the coordinates of your guide?
