How to go to Cape Verde?

Cape Verde is 10 islands, all very different from each other, located off Senegal in the Atlantic Ocean. This destination is gradually experiencing a particular craze from tourists from all over the world, although it is still relatively unspoiled unlike other destinations in the world. Everyone will find happiness in Cape Verde with all the activities and things that can be discovered.

Which Cape Verde airport to choose?

Depending on the country from which you are departing to reach Cape Verde, the most common way to reach Cape Verde is of course by plane since there are several islands off Senegal in Africa.

You should know that on almost each of the 10 islands there is an airport. However the international airports are only on 4 islands which are:

  • Sal International Airport
  • Sao Vicente International Airport
  • Boa Vista International Airport
  • Praia International Airport

The choice of the airport and therefore of the island therefore obviously depends on the route and the islands that you will choose to visit during your stay in Cape Verde.

For my part, during my 2,5 week stay in Cape Verde, I chose to take a multi-destination plane ticket. To know that I landed on the island of Sao Vicente and I left Sal. This allowed me to avoid returning to the first island of Sao Vicente and wasting travel time.

Which airline to go to Cape Verde?

Obviously, since the Covid, many things have changed in terms of air links, but that, I won't teach you. For a time, the only airline allowed to land in Cape Verde was Portugal's flag carrier, TAP.

But if we put the Covid aside, here are the airlines that have connections with Cape Verde:

  • TAP : the national airline of Portugal
  • TACV: the national company of Cape Verde
  • SATA Azores Airlines: the airline of the Azores
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Air Senegal
  • Corendon Dutch Airlines: a Turkish/Dutch airline

These are currently the main airlines serving the various Cape Verde international airports of Sal, Praia, Sao Vicente and Boa Vista.

Which countries fly directly to Cape Verde?

Until the arrival of COVID, the 4 international airports of Cape Verde were served directly by a certain number of countries and in particular:

  • The Senegal
  • Guinea-Bissau
  • Portugal
  • Azores
  • The France
  • The Netherlands
  • Le Brésil
  • United States (Boston)
  • Other European countries

However, since Covid things have changed and a number of routes have been suspended. For a time, only direct flights from Lisbon could land on one of the Cape Verde islands.

However, in recent months, there have been new developments and we can again find direct flights with France, the Netherlands, Senegal, Guinea, the Azores in particular.

How to get to Cape Verde from France?

From France, it is not very difficult to get to Cape Verde, several options are available to you depending on the city in France from which you wish to take off.

From Paris, there are direct flights with the island of Praia and Sal in particular.

On the other hand, if you want to take off from another city in France, either you stopover in Paris, or you can stopover in Lisbon in Portugal with the airline TAP.

For my part, that's what I did, I left Toulouse and therefore took the TAP with a stopover in Lisbon on the way there but also on the way back.
