What budget for 2 weeks in Guatemala?

If you are getting ready to go 2 week trip to Guatemala, you may be happy to be able to have a idea of the cost of living on site and therefore of budget that you must to prepare for such a trip.

I went to Guatemala for 2 weeks alone and I suggest you share my budget for this extraordinary trip that I lived.

What transport budget for 2 weeks in Guatemala?

La first significant expense to be taken into account for a trip to Guatemala is the transportation

There is both the international transport and then the internal transport to move around the country.

Budget in Guatemala: international flight

Regarding the international flight to reach Guatemala from France or Europe, you will need to count between 450 € and 750 €. The price varies depending on the period you are leaving but also depending on the city you are leaving from.

Be aware that the airline Iberia provides more affordable flights and if you are leaving from Spain it will cost you less.

For my part I paid 550 € in the month of february for multi-destination flight departing from Barcelona for Guatemala and returning from Costa Rica.

Budget in Guatemala: domestic transport

Then, concerning the transport prices in the territory of Guatemala, this will depend on the options you are going to choose. For more information on the different ways to get around Guatemala, I advise you to consult my article dedicated to the subject.

To give you an overview, during my 2 weeks in Guatemala, I mainly used the tourist shuttles. THE price for this kind of transport is not very high.

If you decide to follow my 2 week itinerary, here is the approximate cost of transport that you will have to pay per person:

  • Antigua- San Pedro (Lake Atitlan): 70Q (3-4h)
  • San Pedro - Chichicastenango: 70Q (1h30 / 2h)
  • Panajachel (Lake Atitlan) - Lanquin (Semuc Champey): 170Q (10h-14h)
  • Lanquin - Rio Dulce: 120Q (4h-5h)
  • Lanquin - Flores: 140Q (7h)
  • Rio Dulce - Flores: 100Q (5h)

It is therefore a total of 670Q or, about 80 €. Please note, these are negotiated prices. If you want to be large, count 150 € instead for 2 weeks of transport to Guatemala.

Knowing that you will have to add short trips like transport from the airport to your hotel or Antigua (eg 90Q = 10 € for me) as well as short trips by tuk-tuk, taxi or water taxi.

In order to take everything into account, count 150 € to 200 € domestic transport budget.

What accommodation budget for 2 weeks in Guatemala?

view from my hotel on Lake Atitlan

Regarding accommodation in Guatemala, The prices are very affordable. Obviously, like everywhere, according to the comfort you are looking for, prices may be higher.

However, for my part and traveling alone about youth hostels, I went out for € 10 / night average. As a rule, dormitories in hostels are between € 7 and € 12 per night

The average is therefore 10 € because I enjoyed myself by taking a single room in San Pedro on the shores of Lake Atitlan for a few nights.

You will therefore very easily find hostels for less than € 10 a night.

To 2 people, you can count around 20 € / night for two people. However, if you want more comfort, more luxurious hotels offer rooms at a higher price.

Here, I have decided to share with you the minimum budget you will need to go to Guatemala over 2 weeks.

To sum up, a budget of 150 € / person will allow you to spend 2 weeks in Guatemala.

What food budget for 2 weeks in Guatemala?

Food is something very affordable in Guatemala whether you choose to eat local in the markets or small street restaurants. Indeed, a hearty dish with a drink will cost you around 15Q / 25Q (1 € to 3 €). On the other hand, if you eat in more touristy restaurants the price of a dish may be higher between 40Q and 100Q (€ 5 to € 12).

I got out for less than 10 € / day, but obviously it depends on each one.

So count on a budget between € 100 and € 300 for food depending on what you choose.

Budget for Yaxha's visit

Yaxha is a much lesser known Mayan site than Tikal. However, this city is really worth it

You will have the opportunity to visit Yaxha by taking a tour from Flores on a half day.

The entrance fees to Yaxha are from 80Q (9 €) and you have the opportunity to attend a splendid sunset.

For the transport and guide, you will need to add about 100Q (12).
